Photo-ID of type report by   Dennis de Kock
Geometry 703x553 - 45 K.
Notes in type reportFrom Dennis Hallo to all, In his key to the species of Stapelia, Leach , in the first paragraph of the key, devided Stapelia into two groups: "Inner corona lobes short, scarcely horn-like" as against "Inner corona lobes hornlike, much exceeding the anthers. S. paniculata, as can be seen in my picture, clearly has short inner corona lobes, while S. erectiflora has real curving inner horns. This, I think is the basic difference. I have not seen the new book - it is not published yet, so as far as the position of S. scitula, S. montana and S. kougabergensis is concerned, no comment, except that they should be known under these names until published otherwise. Leach placed prostatiflora as a variety of S. erectiflora - so the correct naming for now should be S. erectiflora var erectiflora. Once again I am not aware of the status Bruyns intends to award it.
